1pt win Inisherin @9/2, 14:25 Haydock, Saturday

6f Betfred Supports Jack Berry House Sandy Lane Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (3yo)

With a record of 4-4 in his juvenile season including two Group 1 wins, Vandeek is going to be exceptionally hard to beat if he is ready to go on his first run of the season. But soft ground at Haydock without a run could be negatives for the favourite and I’m really keen to see how INISHERIN gets on at his first attempt over six furlongs dropping back from a mile trip.

Inisherin has run just three times to date all over the mile trip and each time he has taken the field along at a fast gallop. His run in the 2000 Guineas was clearly very good and he even led the field at 5.5 furlong marker to then get oustayed, finishing a very respectable sixth. Inisherin’s ability to stay further should stand him in good stead over a testing six furlongs and he looks like he should relish this type of trip.

Others that have a decent chance include the unbeaten Airman who may just get stretched by this trip and Purosangue who should run well although I have a niggling doubt that he may be just short of top class.
