5f (Inner) Betfred Temple Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (3yo+)
Vadream has got her soft ground conditions in the Temple Stakes at Newmarket, but she’s also been hugely backed this week and looks an incredibly short-price now given the competition. I woudn’t be surprised if she came out on top, but she was only a neck ahead of BEAUTIFUL DIAMOND at Newmarket last time out when Vadream had race-fitness in her favour.
Beautiful Diamond is still quite a raw sprinter, but this filly might just improve a bundle for her first start on soft ground being bred by Twilight Son. She still ran a career best last time out and could be a filly that it going places this season in the sprinting division. Three-year-olds have a good record in this race and Beautiful Diamond could add to that list this weekend for the in-form Karl Burke.
The next tip, is admittedly slightly biased having tipped him for the Prix De L’Abbaye last season, but I think there is a fair chance that ROGUE LIGHTNING could turn out to be the best sprinter in Britain and Ireland this season. This feeling was cemented last season when he was drawn from the widest stall in the Abbaye. Rogue Lightning barely had a chance to get in to full stride being checked and having to switch from outside to inside and back to outside again, and yet, he managed to finish fifth from his wide berth and was upsides star sprinter Highfield Princess just passed the post.
In the off-season Rogue Lightning has been bought for £1,000,000 by Wathnan Racing so they clearly think he’s a gelding with huge potential at the age of four and whilst his best performances may come later in the season when he’s had a run under his belt, I’m not going to let him go unbacked having already taken a price on him to win at Royal Ascot in a few weeks in the King Charles II Stakes.
