There are a lot of doubtful stayers in this race and that’s the angle in. Favourite Serenity Prayer is not one of them and should get the trip, but she’s drawn in stall 10 and she was stuffed in her Oaks Trial behind subsequent Oaks second – the third also ran a stinker at Epsom so you’d have to have some class doubts even though she came second. She seems quite short and is possibly more exposed than some of these. The two that I think are nailed on to stay based on their striding are LADY VIVIAN and UNDERSTUDY. Lady Vivian has achieved much more and warrants the bigger bet, as she has loose collateral form with Oaks winner Minnie Hauk and arrives on an upwards trajectory, beating today’s opponent Caspi Star on the all weather before landing a handicap at Chester. Understudy runs for the red-hot Gosden yard and is so unexposed she could still be anything.
