1pt win Laugh A Minute @5/1, 15:00 Ascot, Saturday

Limato has bounced back to form by winning back-to-back Listed races, but he’s still a long way below the Group One winner we saw a few years ago and there’s plenty of rain forecast for his assignment at Ascot today, which takes away from his chance.

He’s still got a great chance but there are younger improving horses in this race, and Roger Varian’s LAUGH A MINUTE is one of them, having improved notably for a gelding operation.

5/1 underestimates his chance and the threat of rain shouldn’t affect it – in fact I’m not sure he even needs to improve to land this.

Beaten by Tantheem last time out in France, who trades second favourite for Sunday’s Group One Prix de l’Abbaye on Arc day, there’s a strong look to his form.

Prior to that he beat Top Score at Doncaster by a bigger margin than Limato managed when he beat that same foe at Newmarket, so there are collateral form-lines that have the two much closer than the market suggests – Limato is half the price.

Laugh A Minute is the improving horse at the bigger price, so he simply must be the bet of the two.

Projection is clear best of the rest as he looks like he wants a stiff six furlongs, which is what he’ll get at Ascot, but he’s been expensive to follow and doesn’t seem to like winning.
