2m½f (2m92y) William Hill Best Odds Guaranteed Game Spirit Chase (Grade 2) (GBB Race) (Class 1)
Its a shame that Sir Gino isn’t running here, but it’s arguably much more competitive without him. Matata looked very good last time out at Windsor and may still be progressing as a chaser, however I think that last run may have flattered him.
It’s easy to pick holes in the rest of this small field with Edwardstone passed his best and Master Chewy hugely unreliable and I’m by far most interested by the progressive and lightly-raced LIBBERTY HUNTER.
Evan Williams has brought him along slowly and Libberty Hunter is set for his fiercest test to date. He was an unlucky loser of the Grand Annual before finishing third in a Grade 1 at Aintree at the end of last season.
Libberty Hunter looked an improved chaser on his sole start at Cheltenham this year, where he posted another career best so there is every chance he will step forward again and 7/2 is a very fair price for him to do so considering he receives weight from most of his rivals.
1pt win Libberty Hunter @7/2, 15:00 Newbury, Saturday
