1pt win Mythical Magic @5/2, 15:00 Doncaster, Saturday

Earlier on the Doncaster St Leger card the Champagne Stakes could provide Classic clues for next season’s 2000 Guineas.

Raced over Doncaster’s flat seven furlongs with forecast good-to-soft ground, the betting looks tricky as plenty have chances.

None more so than the favourite MYTHICAL MAGIC – a big horse who’s two-from-two this season and looks to extend his unbeaten record.

Trainer Charlie Appleby is saying all the right things about his chances and is clearly quite confident in his horse, so perhaps 5/2 is a good price – good enough.

Aidan O’Brien’s two runners are very interesting as they come with big price tags and are both are by Scatt Daddy, the excellent sire of two-year-olds.

Seahenge was disappointing last time out at Goodwood and Ryan Moore has ditched him for his stablemate and half-brother Mendelssohn, who cost a whopping $3m as a yearling.

That’s because he’s a half-brother on the dam side to leading American dirt horse Beholder, so he’s very much bred in the purple.

Entries in the Group One Dewhurst Stakes and Racing Post Trophy, along with the big price tag, suggests big things are expected from this colt and perhaps this race is just a stepping stone.

One to keep an eye out for the future.

I can’t fancy maiden winner Dream Ahead ahead of the favourite given he’s totally unproven at this level and hardly looks a big price.
