1pt win One For The Team @5/1, 15:15 Doncaster, Saturday

Cap Du Nord will be all the rage for this after his impressive second to Cheltenham bound Royal Pagaille in a Class 2 handicap at Kempton over the Christmas period. Cap Du Nord’s markedly improved form has been quite remarkable and he now races off a 15lbs higher work for those efforts.

But Cap Du Nord has had plenty of races and I think there are a couple of unexposed improvers in this contest in the shape of Musical Slave and ONE FOR THE TEAM coming into this with both having arguably not produced their “big run” just yet. The former needs to brush up on his jumping and at the prices I am just going to side with One For The Team for the Nick Williams yard who have just started to return back to form.

One For The Team is a strong galloping-type and is related to 2016 Grand National winner Rule The World. He has been crying out for a race like this and wasn’t suited to the sharp track at Kempton when finishing a very respectable fifth in the Grade 1 Kauto Start Novices Chase behind Shan Blue, who is 7/1 for the Marsh Novices.

One For The Team’s penultimate start was second behind Next Destination who also looks an impressive novice chaser so he has some strong form in the book.

This will be One For The Team’s first start in a handicap and I’m sure that he’s still lightly-weighted. The majority of his runs have come on a sounder surface, but he has raced well on soft ground over hurdles and I expect him to be suited to the conditions at Doncaster with plenty of front-runners in the race that are likely to bring out his stamina.
