1pt win Shang Tang @10/1, 1pt win Glynn @9/1, 15:30 Kempton, Saturday

2m5f  (Winter) Ladbrokes Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle (Listed Race) (GBB Race)  (Class 1) (4yo+)

A wide open race but the one that’s caught my eye is SHANG TANG for the Emma Lavelle team. He fell at the first last time out, which is a little ironic as his slick jumping appears his best asset. On his previous start at Ascot he outjumped Southfield Harvest at every hurdle and pulled away at the end. Shang Tang only went up 3lb because he was getting 5lb from Southfield Harvest, who went out and ran a stormer in his next start to frank the form. I’m ignoring the each-way markets and having two in the race as I can’t let Nicky Henderson’s GLYNN go unbacked given the trainer’s amazing record at Kempton. Interestingly Glynn has two Grade 1 novice chase entries at the festival so either he can’t jump a fence at home or they think there are races to be won off 134 over hurdles. This is only his third start under rules – he won a point-to-point – and improvement seems quite likely. There are a fair few horses that have come out of his maiden to be rated higher and he absolutely thumped them.
