6f Coventry Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (2yo)

Always tricky. I don’t particularly like the favourite as he’s not got a typical Coolmore pedigree and this is only plan B after Albert Einstein was ruled out. Following Albert Einstein’s form could pay dividends and second home behind him last time – beaten under a length – was POWER BLUE. He’s a big price despite that form and I like his chance. He’ll stay this stiff mile well on account of him doing so well at Curragh last time out – he wasn’t stopping at the line – and his collateral form compares favourably with the favourite with a line through True Love. I’ll back two and cases can be made for Andab (close behind Power Blue despite an interrupted prep) and the unbeaten Military Code (stride suggests he’ll stay despite scraping home last time), but it’s POSTMODERN that appeals as the fastest, most straightforward option. He looked effortlessly fast on debut and pulled away comfortably despite rapid early fractions. That form is yet to be tested but I liked the way he glided across fast ground and sustained his speed all the way to the line without really ever being asked for maximum effort. I’m betting he is the fastest horse in this race.
