We finished this year’s Arc meeting up a modest 2pts after two winners, and now attentions turn to Newmarket’s Future Champions meeting where the Fillies’ Mile headlines a strong Friday card.
1m (Row) bet365 Fillies’ Mile (Group 1) (Class 1) (2yo)
My first comment is I suspect the market has this fairly spot-on when it comes to ranking the favourites. What we’re looking for is something over-priced, though, and I can’t see how the top two in the market fit that description. Quadrilateral was explosive last time out, but in a lesser grade, while softer going and her ability to handle Newmarket are unproven at this grade. Cayenne Pepper shouldn’t have any ground concerns but I feel her stablemates winning similar races in recent weeks has given the bookies forewarning; she looks no more than a fair bet at 11/4. I’m skeptical Love wants any cut in the ground given the times she’s encountered it she has run her two least impressive races, and the two I’m keen on as betting propositions are Boomer and POWERFUL BREEZE, who filled the first two places in a Group Two at Doncaster last time out. Powerful Breeze was well backed on the day suggesting it was no fluke or surprise to connections, and, of the two, I suspect she will handle cut in the ground the best. It’s difficult to make a good case for Boomer at twice the price, who also has a length to find, but I do expect her to be ridden more aggressively this time now stamina is assured. With a line through Daahyeh, second to Love in the Moyglare Stud Stakes, there’s collateral form pointing to these two being closely matched with the best Irish horses, so there might be value there.
1pt win Powerful Breeze @8/1, 15:35 Newmarket, Friday
