1pt win Raheen House @7/1, 0.75pts each-way Architecture @12/1, 14:15 Newbury, Saturday

A really competitive looking Group 3 at Newbury on Saturday with Frontiersman heading the market at the puntable price of 4/1.

He holds the best form on offer with his second to Highland Reel in the Coronation Cup, but he is yet to win at a higher grade than Listed level and he is not going to have his favoured ground conditions today either. That makes Frontiersman massively vulnerable, and enough for us to oppose.

Three-year-olds have a good record in the St Simon, having won four of the last eight renewals, and RAHEEN HOUSE could be the pick of the crop for trainer Brian Meehan.

He has looked highly progressive this campaign and has been highly tried in top-level races. He even claimed the scalp of Enable in a race over this course back in April to underline his powers.

The Sea The Stars colt finished fourth ahead of Best Solution in the King Edward Stakes at Royal Ascot before beating Doncaster Cup winner Desert Skyline in the Bahrain Trophy.

He found the St. Leger too hot to handle after a decent break, but then followed that up to stay on strongly under a penalty at Ascot last time out to win a Listed race. That stamina should bring him to the fore on what will be testing conditions and that could nicely balance out the slight negative in dropping back in trip against older horses for the first time.

We also can’t resist having an each-way nibble at ARCHITECTURE who looks a huge price at 12/1.

This dual Oaks runner-up went off 7/4f last time out, only to finish a distant third to a pretty decent horse in Chain Of Daisies. The run actually wasn’t all that bad in fairness given the trip was two furlongs too short and the ground had dried out, but more was expected.

Her best performances have been with give in the ground, and she showed enough on her reappearance run on today’s track behind Desert Encounter – after a year long layoff – to suggest she can be competitive at Group 3 level as a four-year-old.

This will be Architecture’s third start of the campaign, so she will be fresher than most, whilst she also escapes a penalty and receives the 3lb fillies weight allowance.

Her seconds to Minding and Seventh Heaven were outstanding efforts last season, so a reproduction of that form would see her go very close in this with the class, track and ground conditions all appearing to be in Architecture’s favour.
