At 6/1, Aidan O’Brien’s SIOUX NATION simply looks overpriced to notch his second Group One of his short career in the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket.
He’s sired by Scatt Daddy, whose progeny generally go on softer ground so I’m not sure that’s a realistic negative as some pundits suggest, and those concerns are comfortably factored into his price.
The only thing I don’t like about his chances is the fact this race is at Newmarket and his older, better known siblings Lady Aurelia and Caravaggio put two of their worst performances at the track.
The dip doesn’t suit a lot of horses and Sioux Nation’s handling of the track looks to me the biggest question mark – again one nicely compensated for in the price.
I think Karl Burke’s Unfortunately, winner of the Prix Morny, looks a very backable price at 5/1 to notch his second Group One, while the performance of the favourite, Sands Of Mali, was very good in the Gimcrack at York – he looks a bit short in the betting for me, though.
It’s all well and good them having chances but O’Brien’s two-year-olds always improve late in the season, and, with several of today’s opponents having had long campaigns already, I think it’s madness that his first string is such a big price with a Group One and Royal Ascot win already in the bag.
1pt win Sioux Nation @6/1, 14:55 Newmarket, Saturday (Black Type)
