1m7½f (Inner) Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup (Group 2) (British Champions Series) (Class 1) (3yo+)
This time five weeks ago it would have been hard to see how TRUESHAN could go and win a fourth Long Distance Cup, but a Group 2 Doncaster Cup win and Group 1 Prix Du Cadran win later, he looks an obvious contender to claim another success in this race.
He might not quite have been at his very best on his last two starts, but he has looked pretty impressive despite also being quite keen in his races. He has beaten nearly every other horse in this field at least once other than Kyprios and gets his favoured ground conditions for the race. Time will tell whether it’s really that much better on the round course vs. the straight track, but it’ll be soft no matter what and we know he’s top class in these conditions.
If Kyprios bounces back to his imperious best then he will be hard to beat, but he has something to prove now after his decent comeback run in the Irish St Leger. Sweet William may well be the chief danger and he was tempting given how close he got to Trueshan at Doncaster whilst he could still be improving.
1pt win Trueshan @5/2, 13:15 Ascot, Saturday
