1pt win Tunnes @8/1, 15:10 Friday, Epsom Downs

1m4f Dahlbury Coronation Cup (Group 1) (British Champions Series) (Class 1) (4yo+)

A really top renewal and nothing can be ruled out from this high quality five-runner field. Hurricane Lane is arguably better on softer ground and Emily Upjohn, despite being top-class, is having her first run of the season. Point Lonsdale could be a big improver for the step up to 1m 4f, while we know Westover enjoys it round here and has the form in the book to pick this one up.

But I’m going to take a chance that the bookmakers have underestimated the German runner in TUNNES who compares favourably to all of these on the pick of his three-year-old form. There is a slight risk in backing him on ground that is expected to be no worse than good with all his big runs coming on a softer surface, but good ground should hardly inconvenience him and he’s only rated 1lb inferior to Westover yet he is four times his price.

A tactical five-runner affair around Epsom can often favour a front-running type and Tunnes is likely to try and make the running here. Lastly if there were any doubts about his pedigree, he’s a half-brother to Arc winner Torquator Tasso and Tunnes could be gearing up for a tilt at that race later this year. He feels like a worthy punt in a wide-open race.
