GALILEO GOLD romped home to win the British 2000 Guineas on his seasonal début at Newmarket, with the odds-on and much-hyped Air Force Blue beating just one home.
They renew rivalries in the Irish 2000 Guineas today and, such are the training talents of Aidan O’Brien, it’s no surprise to see the bookmakers only ease Air Force Blue to a short looking 3/1.
He was an exceptional two-year-old and is surely better than his Newmarket flop, so a reversal would hardly be a shock.
To bank on that happening at the prices would be folly, though, as Galileo Gold was deeply impressive in winning the Guineas and is a very backable 15/8 with SkyBet to complete a Classic double – I think he should be odds-on or closer to evens.
There’s every chance he’ll have improved for his first run, and that’d set a mightily-high form standard for any in opposition to surpass.
It doesn’t look like a race to get clever with the betting, so we’re sticking with Hugo Palmer’s colt and backing him like a sure thing.
2pts win Galileo Gold @15/8, 17:40 Curragh, Saturday (SkyBet)
