7f Theo Fennell Oak Tree Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares) (Class 1) (3yo+)
There’s 18 runners, many of which are unexposed, so it’s impossible to say the favourite Jubiloso is the right price at 5/4. She may have the best form but it’s not too high a bar for something to come out and progress past her. Last year the first three home were in stalls 3, 2 and 1, as the sharp turn comes up quickly on the 7f track at Goodwood and a high draw is a massive disadvantage. As such, the majority of those drawn high have no chance and that makes this a great each-way market. So much so I’m throwing two darts. I’ve sided with the well-bred and lightly raced LYZBETH for Martin Meade at 33/1. She won easily on her sole start this season, which was just the second in her career, and we know that the sole reason she’s lightly raced is the Meade yard shut down because of ill health earlier in the year. She’s well entered up, so the yard clearly think she’s Group class, and with a valuable favourable draw in stall five she has a great chance of hitting the frame. The other one I can’t let go unbacked is old favourite ANGEL’S HIDEAWAY. Quite simply, if she runs to form she is nailed on to place as she’s got Group One form this season, and an easy 7f on good ground is just about her ideal conditions. She’s in stall one which is great so long as she breaks well.
