Lanzarote Hurdle selections: Lord Napier 6/1, Big Time Dancer 22/1

We’ve had no rain this winter and good ground prevails with Kempton officially ‘good’ on Lanzarote Hurdle day.

Flat Kempton on such going demands a bit of speed, which is why ex-flat horses often show their best form in those conditions, and that’s what I’m looking for.

The favourite Kloud Gate looks very short now despite having quite an obvious chance, but he’s gone up plenty in the handicap and the bookies have seen him coming so he’s no bet.

LORD NAPIER is very interesting having won over 2m 4f trip in the past but raced exclusively over 2m this season, preserving his 130 mark, and he’s looked like he needs the extra distance.

He looks laid out for this and gets his ground, being by the best flat sire in the world in Galileo, and he looks a solid jumper with stamina assured, which is a good indication he’s likely to run his race.

6/1 doesn’t put me off.

BIG TIME DANCER also looks a bet at 20/1, right at the bottom of the weights and with a further 5lb taken off by Jonjo O’Neil Jr.

He bolted up last time out on fast ground at Doncaster, pinging the last, and looks to be improving since having wind surgery earlier this season.

With so little weight and an obvious appreciation of the conditions, he ticks all the boxes for an outside bet.
