1m2½f (1m2f100y) Rose Of Lancaster Stakes (Group 3) (Class 1) (3yo+)
Addeybb cannot be trusted as a short-priced favourite for this, even though he stands out as the class horse in the race. I’m siding with RAISE YOU for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy as his French run had excuses, and the form of his previous efforts looks well up to Group Three class. As a son of Lope De Vega softer going should be fine, and /2 in a seven-runner race seems very good.

This is a tricky race as we’ve put up three of the top four in the betting on their previous starts, and all have significant excuses. West End Girl ran really well at Sandown and was very unlucky when behind Light Blush, but she was found tapped for toe at a crucial time of the race and I’m certain she wants another furlong, at least. They all finished in a heap that day so it’s hard to imagine there is a star lurking. Ultra Violet was one of two selections in the Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot but the soft ground forced her withdrawal, and our other selection Dark Lady ran as if she hated the ground so can be forgiven. That race was won by a 33/1 outsider by Night Of Thunder, and lightning could strike twice as another daughter of the debut sire, DALANIJUJO, appeals plenty here at 25/1. She travelled beautifully to win her sole appearance on the track, showing lots of fight to hold off a late surge from the second, and has every right to improve again. Less sexy connections have clearly made her the price she is, so I fancy there’s a fair bit of value. Ultra Violet would certainly be my idea of the most likely winner, though.
