1m (Str) Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Sponsored By Qipco) (Group 1) (British Champions Mile) (Class 1) (3yo+)
The switch to the inner track favours those who don’t want a bog and for that reason Mostahdaf deserves favoritism. A line through Nashwa suggests he has a slender collateral form edge over KING OF STEEL but I suspect we’ll see an improved performance from Roger Varian’s stable star. He didn’t get the run of the race at Leopardstown and looked like a horse who needed a bit of cut in the ground to show his best over 10f, which he gets here. If anything, Auguste Rodin winning the Irish Champion Stakes franked his form, and don’t forget he slammed the St Leger winner at Royal Ascot. His proven stamina for beyond this trip is a big plus and this strong traveler has to be involved in the finish.
1p win King Of Steel @4/1, 15:45 Ascot, Saturday
