I shortlisted four for this race. Arqoob, Bucksy Des Empieres, Punta Del Este and finally JILAIJONE, who gets the verdict at the biggest price of the four. This is a very solid and consistent handicapper who’s placed in every start this season and got within 2l of the 148 rated Blueking D’Oroux off level weights at Cheltenham two starts ago. That’s a strong collateral form line as Jilaijone is only rated 125 and, aged four, you’d hope there’s improvement to come. He likes to be held up and was again ridden quietly at Ascot when running really well behind Gin Coco and Favoir – both rock solid yardsticks with form in the very best Cheltenham handicaps. Repeating the level of his last two starts would make a top five finish in this race a cast iron certainty so 9/1 he’s a lovely each-way price.
