WELLS FARHH GO was an eye-catcher at Royal Ascot, attempting tactics which hadn’t worked for any runner on the round course the whole week: coming from off the pace on fast ground.
He did make up ground at the finish and stayed on strongly to suggest the extra furlong of this Newmarket contest will suit, but fast ground remains and his best form has been with some cut.
However, as he’s dropping in class, without a penalty, drawn well and generously priced at 8/1, he does look a good bet.
I don’t like the claims of the favourite First Eleven as he’s very short given he was receiving plenty of weight when third in handicap company at Royal Ascot and, traffic problems aside, I’m not sure that form guarantees he’s up to Group Three class.
Giuseppe Garibaldi must be respected as the form horse – he certainly has better claims of being favourite – but three runs in June and one already in July looks like curious campaigning from the Coolmore team and to my eye he was outstayed in the Ascot Derby, so this longer trip isn’t sure to suit despite him being entered for the two-miler at Goodwood.
One I really like is Loxley for Godolphin, as he’s trained up the road in Newmarket and has proven course form that might be underrated.
He won so easily on his reappearance this season and is bred to stay, but I can’t bring myself to recommend him at 7/2, particularly as he’s drawn wide.

Later on the card Symbolization is back in action and back at a mile after his creditable fourth in the Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot.
His Newmarket form is a big positive and I like his chances, though 4/1 is questionable value in a deep race with so many runners, particularly when his stablemate ZAMAN can be backed at 40/1.
I’m not sure there’s much to be read into the fact Zaman carries the first choice Godolphin colours, as jockey bookings and the market suggest Symbolization is number one, but Zaman had quality juvenile form and started the season fairly well over in Meydan, before a disappointing effort in Germany kicked off his European campaign.
If he needed that run then there might be some improvement to be unlocked, and 40/1 simply looks a massive price.
