A tough race. The unbeaten Mahsoob steps up in class and trip and heads the market at a steady 2/1. There’s not been a huge gamble to suggest confidence from his connections, and, if anything, that price looks likely to drift before post time.
Ryan Moore’s mount, Gospel Choir, is chasing a four-timer which includes two course and distance wins already this season, both on today’s good to firm ground. The first of those was a 2 1/2 length beating of subsequent Group One Coronation Cup winner Pether’s Moon. Also considering Moore takes the ride ahead of Stoute’s other runner, Hill Star, which is a tip in itself, there’s a lot to like.
At the prices however, preference is for another quick-ground and course specialist in Niceofyoutotellme, who can be backed widely at 16/1. Despite finishing 8th, the selection was only two lengths behind Mahsoob at Royal Ascot, despite giving the winner 2lbs. He travelled strongly for much of the race but was outpaced that day, and the step up to 12 furlongs, his liking for Newmarket and today’s level weights could bring about enough improvement to turn the tables and run into the places. The 16/1 looks strong each way value when you consider the favourite’s short price.
