1pt First Of Spring @10/1, 13:10 Chantilly, Sunday

At 10/1 I’m backing the French filly FIRST OF SPRING in the opening Prix Marcel Boussac on Arc day at Chantilly this Sunday.

An easy winner of her first two starts, she’s never raced at this level but her trainer Jean-Claude Rouget was quoted saying he’s having a hard time splitting her and the favourite, Toulifaut (3/1), who he also trains.

The favourite is sired by Frankel, the greatest horse there’s been, so the favourite’s price may shrunk by hype as this is the first year his progeny have hit the track.

First Of Spring is sired by Frankel’s father, Galileo, who is still very much boss in the breeding world and it’s his progeny that deserve most attention in these Group Ones.

Purely on value reasons, First Of Springs is worth siding with given his trainer thinks he has an equal chance as the favourite, who is a fraction of the price.
