Aidan O’Brien runs the impressive Aesop’s Fables and the unbeaten colt is clearly the most likely winner here, but Joseph O’Brien’s AL RIFFA looks far too big at a top price of 14/1. He was beaten by Hans Anderson on debut but didn’t get the run of the race, passing all but the winner from the back for second, and followed up with a comfortable maiden win next time out under a more positive ride. The National Stakes was immediately mentioned so he’s clearly well thought of and I’m a real sucker for his sire Wootton Bassett who is more than capable of producing Group One winners. This being his third career start, there should be plenty of improvement and in a six runner race he’s just far too big a price.
