1pt win Beeley @10/1, 15:05 Chester, Wednesday

1m3½f Weatherbys E-Passport Cheshire Oaks (Listed Race) (Fillies) (Class 1) (3yo)

There doesn’t appear to be a stand-out filly in the Cheshire Oaks. Aidan O’Brien normally sends a good one over to this meeting and Port Fairy steps out of maiden company in search of some black type. She would be a likely winner, but the market seems to favour the Joseph O’Brien trained Galileo Dome who has looked a very strong galloper on her first couple of starts. Galileo Dome is arguably the most likely of winners based on her success last time out, but she might be caught out by a tight track like Chester based on her running style and seems to have more of a miler’s pedigree.

With that in mind, the two that stand out in terms of their middle-distance breeding are Seaward and BEELEY, with the latter preferred based on two very strong seconds in her career thus far. The first of those was second by a nose to a promising type on debut on heavy ground last October (third that day finished sixth in the 1000 Guineas last weekend) and Beeley then managed a very good second behind a talented stablemate on her seasonal debut over 1m 2f at Sandown. The step up in trip to 1m 4f and better ground should play to her strengths with her dam a half-sister to Group 1 middle-distance winner, Ask and her sire an Epsom Derby winner.

Beeley is the sole entrant for John & Thady Gosden in a race that has been won by Enable in the past and that could be a significant pointer considering the strong hand that this yard typically has in this division. 10/1 could underestimate her untapped potential at this distance and she is worth a pop.
