6f Darley Prix Morny – Finale des Darley Series (Group 1) (2yo Colts & Fillies) (Str Course) (Turf) (2yo)
The market is getting carried away with John Dance’s Rhythm Dancer, backing him into 3/1 from 5/1 overnight after a very impressive debut. It’s easy to get carried away with such performances, though there’s no doubt he’s a player. I prefer the sober form claims of Wesley Ward’s filly CAMPANELLE, who was a winner for us at Royal Ascot despite being drawn in a seemingly impossible position and racing with no cover throughout. The form of that race has had several boosts with Sacred and Happy Romance running so well at York, as well as several other winners emerging from the placed horses. It looks better form than the other two Royal Ascot winners in this race, Tactical and Nando Parrado, and, with all the money seemingly on the John Dance horse, Campanelle is a nice price at 3/1. Soft ground should be okay for her and she went some way to proving she stays given Ascot is a stiff 5f, but the step up to 6f is a potential crack in her armour. I still think she should be favourite over Tactical.
1pt win Campanelle @3/1, 13:35 Deauville, Sunday
