Our fine run hit a bump in the road at York, returning zero winners despite a profitable Saturday, but there’s plenty of good racing at Sandown today worth getting stuck into. I like ONASSIS in the fillies’ Group Three at a big price. She won a Royal Ascot handicap off a low mark and has since followed that up in a fairly weak looking Listed race in France, progressing to a mark of 99 which, with her weight-for-age allowance, puts her in the mix. She’ll still have to find 10lb to be competitive with an in-form Billesdon Brook and 15lb with the favourite Quadrilateral, but she is a hold-up horse who’s never going to earn herself a high rating by swooping late to get up at the line – until she beats a good one. She’ll need things to go right for her and an end-to-end gallop wouldn’t be ideal as she’s all speed, but she is an improving horse typical of her sire, Dubawi.
1pt win Onassis @16/1, 15:05 Sandown, Sunday
