2m Matheson Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+)
This race looks ripe for a bet as the theme of the week at Leopardstown has been Willie Mullins-trained favourites getting turned over. Maybe there’s nothing in that, but it certainly looks like the yard aren’t firing on all cylinders and, coupled with an underwhelming return in the Morgiana Hurdle, it’s easy enough to take Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner Klassical Dream on at such prohibitive odds. It’d be easy to make a case for the supplemented Darasso having a big chance here but the bet has to be the improving COEUR SUBLIME for the in-form Gordon Elliott yard. He was second in the Triumph Hurdle to Pentland Hills, who to my eye ran a very nice reappearance this year at Cheltenham, and followed that up with a weird performance at Fairyhouse where he travelled like the best horse, hitting the front easily two out, and then went out like a light to be beaten 14 lengths. That looked to bad to be true and he returned this year better than ever to win a Grade 2 without coming off the bridle, travelling supremely well throughout. He’s a horse on the upgrade.
1pt win Coeur Sublime @7/2, 14:30 Leopardstown, Sunday
