3m Ladbrokes Kauto Star Novices’ Chase (In Memory Of Nigel Clark) (Grade 1) (GBB Race) (Class 1) (4yo+)
I’ve been waiting for the betting markets to latch onto Hermes Allen here and ease the prices of others as he’s the obvious favourite after such an impressive start to life over fences. I struggle to fault his chance but reckon there’s very little between him and GIOVINCO who looks really classy himself and is much easier to back. He got outbattled on soft ground at Sandown by the excellent Stay Away Fay but traveled like the winner most the way, jumped really well and enhanced his profile considerably despite the result. He looks an ideal candidate for Kempton and goes really nicely on good ground. I struggle to see anything getting away from him in the middle of the race and his proven stamina and sound jumping will ensure he’s involved in the finish. Punters were always going to latch onto Hermes Allen so Giovinco was always going to drift. 4/1 is a good price. I haven’t mentioned the French horse but he’s got loads to prove now on good ground, British fences and a right handed track.
