Wesley Ward is always full of enthusiasm for his Royal Ascot chances but he said of his Norfolk Stakes chance GOLDEN PAL ‘I really think he’s one of the best horses I’ve ever brought to Royal Ascot – believe me, this horse is the real deal’. Bizarrely for Ward’s best chance of the week, he’s an 8/1 shot – perhaps because of the soft ground or more likely because Frankie Dettori has chosen to ride Eye Of Heaven. Eye Of Heaven beat the Windsor Castle Stakes 1-4 last time out so Frankie was never getting off as he has a huge chance. 8/1 is just too big for a profile of horse like Golden Pal, whose trainer excels in these two-year-old races. Any ground concerns are more than factored into that price.
