FANNY LOGAN is a right good bet in the Hardwicke Stakes at 11/1. She gets the mares’ allowance against the colts and is proven on softer going which many of the market principles, including the favourite Antony Van Dyck, are known to dislike. John Gosden has been in good form this week and Frankie Dettori is on board, so I’d expect some support through the day on Friday and those odds to tumble. Her Breeders’ Cup run on firm ground last November was brilliant and she had previously racked up a four-timer after disappointing over this course and distance at last year’s Royal meeting. She raced keenly that day and has settled far better since, so I’m banking on her being an improved horse this year. Elarqam has to prove he stays now upped in trip and soft ground makes that tough, while Defoe is fairly exposed and very beatable. I think Fanny Logan has an excellent chance of hitting the frame at least.
