1m Prevagen Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (Grade 1) (2yo Colts, Geldings & Ridglings) (Turf) (2yo)
This looks wide open and I’m not keen on top of market. William Buick isn’t even on the shortest Godolphin runner Al Qudra, and I’m not sure his nor New Century’s Woodbine form is really up to Group One level. Aomori City was brushed aside by HENRI MATISSE in the National Stakes and I do think the Coolmore horse has the most ability in this race despite twice fluffing his lines at Group One level. Back in August he comfortably beat two subsequent Group One winners over 7f on summer ground and I can easily forgive his no-show on very soft going at Longchamp last time. He’s got a shocking draw but if he is the best colt in this race it shouldn’t stop him from winning at a big price of 10/1. I’m two handed in the race with the Japanese raider SATONO CARNAVAL who is 2/2 back home and his participation here is telling. By the same sire as superstar Equinox and, based on his 6f form, well able to break well from his low draw in box one, I think he’s really underestimated at 12/1. In fact, Del Mar has hosted four juvenile Breeders’ Cup races over this trip and three of them have been won by the horse drawn in one, and and stall one was second in the outlier and only lost 3/4l. Hard to ignore!
1pt win Henri Matisse @10/1, 1pt win Satono Carnaval @12/1, 00:25 Del Mar, Saturday
