1m (7f213y) (Rnd) Coronation Stakes (Group 1) (Fillies) (Class 1) (3yo)
Zarigana is a wobbly favourite. She got chinned by a 33/1 shot on Arc day and only landed the French Guineas in the stewards’ room. It looked like a weak French Classic and I’m taking her on at short prices. Falakeyah appeals, but the drop in trip is a little concerning considering all she did at Newmarket was galop – she didn’t quicken. I suspect she’ll be best on softer going at this trip later in the season. JANUARY is an obvious chance even though improvement is needed. She has excellent juvenile form behind Desert Flower, who despite not staying at Epsom is still the leading 3yo miler in the fillies’ division alongside Lake Victoria. Ballydoyle have been in savage form all week and I’d expect January to take a big step forward from her debut in the Irish 1,000 Guineas. She’s entered in five other Group Ones throughout the summer so there’s no doubting connections see her as a Group One horse and she’s a big price presumably because she’s seen as plan B because Lake Victoria didn’t make it. KON TIKI is tickling my fancy too. She’s an unbeaten daughter of Night Of Thunder who has been supplemented at significant expense after winning cosily with a sharp turn of foot at York. Post race comments suggested she would go to a Group Two in France and then onto the Falmouth so it’s interesting they’ve changed plan to run here instead – hard to see that as anything other than a vote of confidence. She’s a nice price at 10/1 for a horse that could be anything.
