1pt win Lady Aurelia @3/1, 15:05 Ascot, Wednesday

I’m a big fan of American trainer Wesley Ward.

He lets punters know when he’s got a good thing and the noises he’s making about his Queen Mary Stakes raider LADY AURELIA are too positive to ignore.

This is a race he targets as he’s won it twice since 2009, most recently with the brilliant Acapulco last year – who was supposed to run in Tuesday’s King’s Stand Stakes but was a withdrawal due to the soft ground of this year’s Royal meeting – so his runners demand respect.

“This filly is just amazing. She’s done everything we’ve asked at home and she should be really tough (to beat). I really like her chances,” Ward told At The Races.

“She’s very tractable. She can sit and come with the burst she has. It’s not like she’s a speed-crazy filly.

“I would say she’s my best chance of the week. She’s just a flying machine.

“When you watch her in the morning, it’s like she breathes different air to the fillies she’s breezing against.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing her run and watching the brilliance that I’ve seen in the morning.

“I think she’s every bit as good as the two winners as I’ve had – she may even be a little better.”

He couldn’t be more positive and has not once mentioned ground concerns – and Acapulco’s withdrawal tells us he’s not afraid to pull the plug if conditions aren’t right.

There may be 17 runners in this race, but Ward’s record and comments demand respect and Lady Aurelia is pretty easy to back at 11/4.

If she’s as good as he says she is, that’s a price well worth taking.

It’ll probably pay to wait for a morning price, though, as bookmakers scramble for your custom.

1pt win Lady Aurelia @11/4 or best morning price, 15:05 Ascot, Wednesday (3/1 was widely available)
