Simple Verse was a 9/2 winner on Thursday at Doncaster, and the opening Sceptre Stakes on Friday’s card looks a decent betting heat.
A Group Three over seven furlongs, Nemoralia trades odds-on favourite after an impressive August win at York that’s earned her a weight penalty for this.
She’s very good – a Group One horse – but so is LUMIERE.
Lumiere, at her best, is very, very good – and if she brings her best form then the 7/2 quote is a steal.
Almost last when a favourite for the 1000 Guineas, she bounced back to form in emphatic style when running away with a Listed race at Newmarket’s July meeting, before stepping back up in class and flopping again in the Prix Rothschild at Deauville.
The July run proved she had trained on as a three-year-old from an excellent, Group One-winning juvenile campaign, so there’s every reason to believe she can bounce back again.
Connections have stated she’s flying at home so the signs are there and I reckon she’s well worth backing at 7/2.
The issue is the ground, but Nemoralia too is a fast-ground horse and the official going at Doncaster has dried out to ‘good’, so it’s not too much of a concern.
1pt win Lumiere @7/2, 13:55 Doncaster, Friday
