Sole Power has hardly been out of sorts this season. He won a Group One at Meydan in March and has run into two superstars in Mecca’s Angel and Muhaarar on his last two starts – he finished a good fourth in both with the trip and ground valid excuses for both.
Down in class to Group Two level with his ideal five furlongs and good ground, everything is primed for him to run a big race in the Flying Five Stakes. The Curragh seems to have avoided the rain that softened up Leopardstown yesterday and the 9/2 favourite, Maarek, would have needed it so he looks there for the taking.
The rest of the field is strong, but there’s no denying an in-form Sole Power is a class above these and 7/1 looks a good bet.
1pt win Sole Power @7/1, Curragh 15:05
