Agent Murphy ticks all the boxes for the Irish St Leger. He landed a big gamble when routing a decent Group Three field at Newbury, with the subsequent Doncaster Cup winner, Pallasator, well beaten. That was raced on similar good to soft ground to today’s and the manner of the win suggested he has stamina and class in abundance.
The favourite, Order Of St George, is the main threat now redirected from Doncaster to take on older horses. He’s given sound beatings to the re-opposing Kingfisher and Forgotten Rules, who both ran well in the Ascot Gold Cup, and finished a short-head behind English St Leger winner Bondi Beach on his seasonal reappearance. Ryan Moore was on board that day, suggesting connections rated him highest and he’s been impressive ever since with back-to-back wins.
It’s hard to split them so it’s got to be the bigger price of Agent Murphy at 6/1.
