1m (Str) Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Sponsored By Qipco) (Group 1) (British Champions Mile) (Class 1) (3yo+)
Whilst Charyn has proven himself the top miler in Europe over the summer, TAMFANA is the ‘now’ horse after an impressive and fairly easy win in the Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket. She proved her wellbeing and also that she should have won the 1,000 Guineas in May. The soft ground is of little concern given her wins on good-to-soft, and her stout pedigree – she’s also been stretched out as far as 12f fairly successfully this term and should relish this tough test. I’d have her a value play in a match with Charyn at 4/1. I’m also backing the progressive PRAGUE who was sold from Ballydoyle and switched over to Dylan Cunha before he started his racing career only in June this year. In six runs so far he’s shown he can be very keen and wants to get on with it, but when allowed to stride on in last month’s Joel Stakes at Newmarket he looked a force to be reckoned with on soft ground. A mile on soft going looks ideal for this son of Galileo and I’m hoping he’ll make the running and attempt similar tactics to last year’s winner Big Rock. At 14/1 I’ll pay to find out.
1pt win Tamfana @4/1, 1pt win Prague @14/1, 15:15 Ascot, Saturday
