6f Dubai Duty Free Mill Reef Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (2yo)
We landed this race at 14/1 last year with Wings Of War and I fancy my chances of repeating the feat with Richard Hannon’s WALLOP, a son of Harry Angel who showed plenty of talent on debut when beaten under two lengths by the UK’s best juvenile colt Noble Style. He got 6lb but still pulled a long way clear of the chasing pack, clocking a sub-11 second furlong to prove he’s got genuine pace. Mill Stream split the pair in second, but pay no attention to Mill Stream’s York run next time out where he traveled like a dream but clearly didn’t stay the extra furlong. That form overall looks very strong and Richard Hannon always leaves plenty to work on with his juvenile debutants so improvement is likely. 12/1 is a very big price. I can’t criticise the favourite who has done everything right so far, but he’s a very short price in a competitive race full of improvers.
