Lucida‘s season is in danger of turning into a hard luck story. She was mugged of classic glory by Legatissimo in the 1000 Guineas and was beaten into third in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot by a bad draw and an excellent Christophe Soumillon ride. The form is excellent and if either race were to be re-run it’d be no surprise to see the placings reversed. Her short price of 3/1 actually seems good value. Ante-post favourites do have a tendency to drift though, so waiting for a Friday morning price may be wise.
Avenir Certain significantly drops in trip and has disappointed since her Arc flop. She draws an uninspiring form-line through through Fintry, Integral and Rizeena, and all are easy to rule out on form when you consider Duke of Cambridge Stakes winner Amazing Maria, who put Rizeena and Integral in their places at that day, is a generous looking 12/1. With similar quick conditions forecast over another straight mile, there’s no obvious reason places will be reversed.
