7f (7f6y) Hird Rail Group Park Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (3yo+)
NEVER NO MORE looks a big price to land this Group Two prize. He showed smart form when conquering Madhmoon earlier in the season and was off the track for a few months following that success, presumably through a setback, so can be forgiven an underwhelming reappearance in a tough assignment in America. He simply looks overpriced now, given his powerful connections, and the fact he receives weight from all of the main market rivals bar Turjomaan is a big advantage. Turjomaan blew the start last time out but ended up running a blinder for second, so clearly possesses talent, but he’s very short in the betting and I don’t like backing horses that run big races after blowing the start, as it can flatter them. Shine So Bright would have to be the form pick, but he is very vulnerable with a 3lb penalty for his win last time out.
1pt win Never No More @15/2, 14:25 Doncaster, Saturday
7f (7f6y) Pommery Champagne Stakes (Group 2) (Colts & Geldings) (Class 1) (2yo)
He’s fast becoming a cliff horse, but at 25/1 in a five runner field, stepped up to 7f and racing on good-to-firm ground for the first time, there are plenty of reasons to believe this could finally be ROYAL DORNOCH‘s day. Threat is the obvious threat, but let’s not forget the selection was staying on three lengths back when they met at Goodwood, and he’s got every right to be improving.
1pt win Royal Dornoch @25/1, 15:00 Doncaster, Saturday
