I’ve backed Arc third ONESTO for Breeders’ Cup success at Santa Anita, where he’ll get similar fast ground to what was clearly a career best last time out at Longchamp. He ran the final 3f in exactly the same time as the brilliant winner Ace Impact, and that blend of speed and stamina is ideal for a Breeders’ Cup Turf. He looks a brilliant price at 7/1 in a race severely lacking in depth. Auguste Rodin is the ante-post favourite and thrashed Onesto at Leopardstown, but the selection’s Arc run clearly showed he used Leopardstown as a prep and that wasn’t his true running. The two times Auguste Rodin has flown abroad he has been thrashed – he ferried over for his Doncaster and Epsom wins – and Aidan O’Brien has suggested travel was the issue. Well I’d like to see him ferry over to Los Angeles because he’ll need to have left already! Mostahdaf, Emily Upjohn, King Of Steel and Warm Heart all have other targets and I’d be surprised if more than one of that quartet turns up. Onesto will be less than half the price he is now once that becomes apparent.
