1m FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile presented by Permanently Disabled Jockey Fund (Grade 1)
Super competitive. The form horse is Songline who bagged two domestic Grade 1s over the summer, but she’s a big mare who likes to come from off the pace and she’s going to have to from her wide post. English Guineas winner Mawj is 4/4 this year and has no negatives as she’s fast, loves the ground and, unlike Songline, is built to nip round these tight bends. I also rate Kelina a good chance as she’s right at home on fast ground and proved in the Foret she has all the necessary speed for this test – unfortunately she’s also got a tough gig in stall 11 and will need some luck. Given the strength of top of the market I’m inclined to look for each-way value and Chad Brown’s GINA ROMANTICA stands out. She’s progressive and should be peaking as this is her fourth start of the season, landing Grade 1 honours over the talented In Italian over the mile last time. She got something of a dream trip but was very impressive running down her stablemate with a sharp turn of foot. Drawn low near the rail I’d expect a ground saving ride to pounce late. At 12/1 she represents healthy each-way value.
1pt each-way Gina Romantica @12/1, 20:30 Santa Anita, Saturday (1-4, 1/5)
