5f (5f3y) Carlsberg Danish Pilsner Flying Childers Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (2yo)

This race is crying out for a bet as Kylian didn’t look at home on soft ground when beaten by today’s fav Big Evs at Goodwood, who himself put in his worst run of the year in what will be remembered as a poor renewal of the Nunthorpe. Collateral form gives Inquisitively a good chance but I’m not sure soft ground will suit. Once raced Irish raider FRANCIS MEYNELL has strong claims as he comfortably beat a horse in his maiden who had previous finishing second to top three-year-olds River Tiber and Johannes Brahms. There was cut in the ground that day and 6/1 is a good price for a profile like that – we’re yet to see him driven out in a finish. It’s wide open, though, and I have a gut feeling we haven’t seen the best of MALC yet. Second in the Group Two Norfolk at Royal Ascot, he didn’t look in love with fast ground next time up over 6f at Newmarket in a race where the 1-2 came from the back and everything up with the pace fell in a hole late on. He bends his knee and will enjoy some cut in the ground, while his trainer has given him a break to physically develop. At 16/1 I don’t think he needs to improve a great deal to be involved and conditions should suit perfectly.
