Ghaiyyath trades 2/1 favourite for the Autumn Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday but I’m not sure that’s the right price after just a course and distance maiden success.

He looked pretty good and favouritism is fairly justified, but I’m happy to take him on with Charlie Hills’s WAFY at 8/1.

He too has only won a maiden and did it well, but by Dubawi and out of a 1000 Guineas winner, he’s bred in the purple and stable vibes seem positive.

Another one I like is Hugo Palmer’s Arbalet, who will likely improve for this step up in trip and has been trained for this race.

I just reckon the good ground will see him tapped for toe against the faster horses, so he’s passed this time.

I’m cautious of backing Aidan O’Brien horses outside Group Ones, particularly when they’re entered for such assignments afterwards, so the nice prices about Zabriskie is also passed; however the apparent second string, FLAG OF HONOUR, looks overpriced at 12/1.

A facile winner ten days ago and by super-sire Galileo, Newmarket will be right up his street – while this looks to be his final start of the season and he has a Derby entry next year, it makes sense that this mile heat has been his main target.
