With virtually the entire field rated within a few lbs of each other, Newbury’s Lockinge Stakes looks an ideal betting race.
Against very exposed horses all around a similar level, I’m looking for something at a big price that’s on a progressive arc and comes into this race off the back of a career best, which has me landing on MYTHICAL MAGIC for Charlie Appleby and Godolphin.
He’s 20/1 and was last seen winning a very tidy race in Dubai, whereas this has been targeted ever since.
He’s a huge horse, and that generally means they take a bit more time to fully grow into their frames and reach their peak, so after a promising couple of seasons it would make plenty of sense should he improve again to win this.
