All in all, this is a disappointing renewal of the famous race, with only a handful of Group-level wins between them.
It’s tough to split the top two in the market, Storm The Stars and Bondi Beach, but the former makes most appeal as he came out on top in their York trial.
Having been placed in both the English and Irish Derbys, his Group One form is solid and very unspectacular, so on his ninth start this season looks vulnerable to an improver.
The filly Simple Verse looks the most likely to do so and is worth a bet at 9/1 after back-to-back victories. She boasts proven stamina and, having not raced as a juvenile, has made rapid progress this season. Her connections supplemented her, which is often a tip in itself, and the overnight rain has only enhanced her chances so she’s good value to go close.
