Energumene is all the rage and odds-on for the Irish Arkle but this is a deep renewal and he was far from the top of the potential Arkle pecking order in the Mullins yard at the start of the season. Mullins was glowing in his praise of UNEXCEPTED in his Racing Post stable tour at the beginning of the season and I have a few quid on him for the Arkle at the Festival. “He could be our Arkle horse. He has huge natural talent to jump fences and a very high cruising speed. He’s a horse who excites everybody, including myself”. Watch back his Tipperary demolition and he jumped brilliantly and nothing could get near him on the day, and there was substance to the form with decent horses in behind. He’s just as exciting as the favourite in my book and could be anything. 5/1 is a very good price.
