I’m drawn to TALLARD ROYAL in this 3yo handicap as his sire Ribchester exceeded expectations with his first 2yos last season and this fella looks huge. He’s a big unit of a horse with a long stride that should suit a galloping track like Haydock and you’d expect there to be considerable improvement from his first run of the season – a fairly facile win at Beverley. He’s drawn well and might make the running.

6f Cazoo Sandy Lane Stakes (Group 2) (Class 1) (3yo)
This is a wide open race but Go Bears Go looks overbet as a 2/1 favourite. He was getting 5lb from Mill Reef winner WINGS OF WAR when beating him 4l at Ascot on both their reappearances, with Ehraz – narrowly second to Tiber Flow who was beaten a short head by this race’s second favourite El Caballo in an earlier encounter – split the two. That is strong form and I suspect Wings Of War will improve for that run as connections are working backwards from the Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot. 18/1 simply underestimates his potential after one underwhelming run.
